After giving birth a woman’s body and psyche goes through a profound transformation. While this transformation can be beautiful and invigorating it can also be overwhelming. A new mother can be as vulnerable as a newborn; requiring deep nurturing and care. In Ayurveda medicine there is a saying “40 days for 40 years”, meaning the way in which you take care of yourself in the first forty days will determine your health for the next forty years. Proper healing is essential for a woman’s future reproductive health. The postpartum period is also an amazing opportunity for a woman to replenish and revitalize so that she can thrive as a mother. Providing new mothers with a dedicated time to recover will not only prevent depletion and exhaustion but will allow the family to bond and connect during this sacred time. First Forty Days Healing – Cuarentena
The first forty days postpartum are considered a sacred time for most cultures. This is an essential time for mother and baby to bond and create a new relationship. It is also a time for mothers to heal, rest and recharge and for babies to adjust to a new life outside the womb. In latin America this time is called the Cuarentena – which literally translates as forty days. It is believed that this is a time when a mother should focus solely on healing and adjusting to this new life. The new mother is expected to stay at home and rest while she is delivered nourishing meals from her community and receives healing touch and nurturing to help her recover, promote breastfeeding and avoid any depression and illness from depletion. It is said that this time will set the stage for a woman’s health for the rest of her life, which is why taking the time to rest and heal properly is vital.
During the Cuarentena I will come to your home and support you in your healing through different bodywork techniques for postpartum. Each session will be different depending on your birth experience and where you are at in your healing process. During the sessions we will work with some of the following therapies:
- Massage – Sobadas, Thai Massage, Abhyanga and Lymphatic Drainage
- Vaginal Steams
- Belly Binding
- Breastfeeding support
- Herbal treatments such as moxa and herbal baths
- Energy work
- Warming salves

- Meal preparation – healing soups, stews and elixirs made with herbs to support your process (extra cost, please see below)
My goal is to support and guide through this vulnerable time. You can choose to have me come to your house 1, 2 or 3 times a week for the first six weeks postpartum and ending on day 40 with a closing of the hips ceremony. During this time I will also be available to you via text, email or phone calls for additional support. Each session will last around 90-120 min.
Duration: 1 x week for the first 40 days
Duration: 2 x week for the first 40 days

Closing the Hips – Cerrada de Cadera
In the last weeks of pregnancy, labor and birth there is a mayor opening of the body on all levels – physically by opening the hips and cervix, emotionally to adjust to all the changes that come with a new baby and energetically there is a big shift and opening to welcome a new life. After the birth we are not accustomed to focus on closing everything that shifted during the birth. The Cerrada de Cadera is a deeply profound healing therapy from Mexico that focuses on closing and healing the body on all levels.
Each session has three main components. We begin with a massage to align and balance the abdominal organs, uterus and pelvis. After the massage I will use a traditional technique called manteada with a rebozo (a traditional Mexican shawl) in which we focus on closing the hip bones and the structural alignment of the body. We end each session with a traditional temazcal (sweatlodge) or herbal bath in which different herbs are used to support a deep healing process.
This therapy not only provides an amazing healing process for the body but also assists the emotional and spiritual healing after birth, which is greatly needed. It is also a great way to bring closure to and celebrate this rite of passage to motherhood. We can close the hips at anytime in your process after the first 40 days and it is still very beneficial years after giving birth.
Duration: 2-3 hours
One of the most potent medicines during the postpartum are warming whole foods based meals. This important aspect if often overlooked, with families having little to no time to prepare meals. However, this is a time when the body needs this nourishment the most in order to heal and to provide the best quality milk to the baby. Through nutrient dense foods and incorporating healing herbs into dishes, I will provide delicious meals that will soothe your soul and aid your healing process.
Meal preparation services work on a weekly basis. We begin with an initial consultation where you will let me know your food preferences as well as any dietary concerns and restrictions. I will provide some health guidance and support in the elaboration of your meal plan and I will send you the final menu via email 3 days before the preparation date for your approval. I will come to your home on a set date and I will prepare all the meals for the week for you and your family. The average preparation time is 4-6 hours.
The dishes I prepare are based on Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Traditional Mexican Medicine, all of whom have very specific dietary recommendations for postpartum. I do not cook with any processed foods or sugar. I only use the highest quality ingredients and recommend using mostly organic foods.
- Grocery shopping
- 2 soups (made with organic bone broth)
- 3 main dishes
- 2 sides
- 2 teas or drinks
- 1 dessert
Cost – $450 per week plus the cost of groceries
“My work with Andrea was an integral part of my journey into motherhood, allowing me to enter postpartum recovery feeling supported, cared for and seen. Whether it was massage / body work, energy work, herbal healing or sharing my birth story, I truly felt safe and held in compassion by Andrea. Not to mention the incredibly delicious, nourishing food and elixirs that she arrived with each session. Andrea is a rare gem in that she is truly talented, skilled and studied in all modes of therapy and healing that she offers.
I was very drawn toward working with Andrea but wasn’t 100% sure of what offerings from her vast menu I would select. Through discussion and intuition, Andrea understood where I was during each step in my recovery and offered tailored services that allowed me to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually. My needs and recovery were prioritized and put first; I felt so cared for and restored after each session, which empowered me to prioritize my healing so I could be the best, most present mother to our new baby.
Andrea’s grounded and light presence was a treat to have in our home and I am so happy that both my daughter and I are connected to her. I am forever grateful for Andrea’s work and care and would be happy to connect with anyone looking to work with her in this capacity.”
